THE DE HAVILLAND DRAGON RAPIDE FAMILY

De Havilland Dragon Rapide This story of the classic de Havilland twin-engine biplane family includes an introduction to the development of each type followed by a detailed history of every individual example. Commencing with the DH.84 Dragon of 1932, it covers the DH.86 Express Air Liner, the DH.89 Dragon Rapide / Dominie (including the DH.92 Dolphin) and ends with the DH.90 Dragonfly.

Few other aircraft types can have had such major impact on the establishment of airline services as the introduction of the Dragon in 1933 and the DH.86 and Dragon Rapide which followed it. Post-war the availability of ex-service Dragon Rapides provided a source of reliable airline equipment for companies in Europe, Africa and the Near and Far East. The fact that numbers are still flying today, providing first flight experience for many members of a new generation of the public, is a testament to their design and success.

Background histories and fleet lists of the UK operators of all these types are included, together with a registration/serial to constructor's number index and other Appendices. Copiously illustrated with over 450 black and white photos, many of which are full page width, there is a 16-page colour section including 29 colour photos and 45 colour side views prepared by Peter Coker.
