Few World War Two organisations responsible for such a
profound effect on the successful outcome of the conflict have
received such sparse recognition as the United States Ninth Air
Force. Compared with its sister force, the Eighth, which was,
admittedly, in action in the United Kingdom for a much longer
period than the Ninth, little has been published in Great Britain
about the 'Cinderella' force's activities. This book is an attempt to record, in concise form, possibly as a starting point from which other books may evolve, the history of the Ninth Air Force in the European Theatre of Operations, from October 1943 through its move to the Continent from June 1944 to its eventual inactivation in December 1945. To redress another wrong, the non-flying Commands, usually neglected, are also included as far as space permits, but only a series of books of several thousand pages would allow all the multitude of ground units to be mentioned. IX Air Force Service Command and IX Air Force Engineer Command are of particular interest, and it is hoped that comprehensive accounts of their activities will be written at some future date. 128 pages, softback, A4.
